Brea Kiwanians Attend Thanksgiving Interclub

Dennis O'Hern, Don Hull, Chuck Clough and Tom Green attended this year's Thanksgiving Breakfast.  The speaker was a Marine Gunnery Sergeant who gave an interesting talk about Toys For Tots and the large amount of toys being collected. Approximately 200,000 to 300,000 toys are anticipated to be collected

Paint Your Heart Out Completed

by Charlie Phillips

With Kiwanian and Key Club volunteers, house painting of the Stewart house on Flower St was completed by late afternoon on October 8.   A big thank you to Dennis, Dean, Tom, Allan, Joe, Charlie and 18 Key Clubbers for a work filled day that started at 7:30 AM and completed by 3:30 PM.

Special thanks to Pres. Isabell and Dennis for all the great planning and organization.  It all showed in the final result, 'success', for another project completed.

The painting effort required significant work like masking for paint over-spray of the stucco and over paint on the wood trim. The trim painting required patience and effort to prepare and complete.

It was Charlie's first time directing the five Key Clubbers as they painted one mail box.

A special thank you to Tom Green and Allan Perry for painting the hard-to-reach fascia trim. In total the day was a great team work effort from all.

Annual CHOC Walk

Kiwanis President Isabel, Allen Perry and family, Joe and Josiah Salazar and friend, Ciera, represented our club at the 21st annual CHOC Walk in the Park.  Hosted by Disneyland Resort, it was a tremendous success with over 14,000 walkers raising $1.7 million for CHOC Children's!

Proceeds from this event will support health care programs, education and research at CHOC Children's.

Always helpful, Joe gives directions to the restrooms to one of the other walkers.

Spelling Bee Winners Honored

Okay, I used the word "honored" loosely.  Perhaps "recognized" is more accurate.  The annual Spelling Bee was held on June 2 and the winners were recognized at the Awards Breakfast on June 9.

There is a tie for First Place.  In the above photo, left to right, are First Place winners Grace and Gloria Bae from Olinda Elementary School.  Perennial chairman of the event, Dr. Henry Cardenas, is in the middle (the older looking kid) and Second Place winner, Gaurav Mishra from Mariposa Elementary School, is on the far right.

Quartermania
Saturday,  November 5th

by Charlie Phillips

Judging from the number of bid paddles issued, there were 37 participating bidders. The food was great and plenty for all. The event set up and organized by Joe Salazar.  In addition to great fun and food, ten quality 'Silent Auction' baskets were brought in by members.

Joe and Catherine were great plugging the baskets to up the silent auction bids. The fund raiser made money.  Joe Salazar, as usual, did a great job organizing and making the event happen.
