The 52 Annual Easter Egg Hunt

By Debbie McNulty

Saturday morning dawned cool and bright with the promise of many young smiling faces preparing for the Brea Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt at Arovista Park. Elvin Campbell arrived early as he had been recruited by Dean Hall to “run the show” in Dean’s absence. The Brea Boy Scout Troop 801 arrived early to help Elvin set up the three search areas for the children- one for preschool, one for Kindergarten/1st and one for 2nd-3rd grades. The Key Clubbers followed next with 8 showing up bright eyed and bushy-tailed to help with the children AND to sell a few baked goods to raise a little money for their club.... Of course, we did have a few actual Brea members brave the Southern Calif. morning sunshine- Dave Worker and girlfriend, Katherine, Dennis O’Hern, Elwin Campbell, Tom Green, Joe Salazar, Bill Murray and Don Hull. Charlie was conspicuously absent though he sent his daughter, Debbie, in his place as official Key Club liaison and photographer.

The festivities went off without a hitch. Bill Murray did an outstanding job as MC. The Key Clubbers, under Joe Salazar’s lively supervision, distributed the candy and toys (lots of toys!) across the 3 search areas.

Of course, no Easter Egg Hunt would be complete without a special appearance by the Easter Bunny (played enthusiastically by Tom Green’s daughter, Madison)....The hunt was over within minutes. Then the children lined up to turn in their plastic eggs in exchange for an official Easter chocolate bunny, handed out by the Brea Key Clubbers. Some children even stayed to say hello and get pictures with our special guest, the Easter Bunny...All in all, a great time was had by all!
